(New law regulating residential remodeling contractors)
  • As of July 2008 Georgia law requires contractors to be licensed with the state.
  • Contractors must have a license to enter into a binding contract, recognized by the law
  • Contractors not licensed can not obtain a building permit
  • Licensed contractors must have a minimum of 2 years experience, have approved insurance, a clean police record, excellent history with their bank, good credit rating including a credit line to insure the completion of the project. Contractors must be in good standing with the I. R. S.
  • Contractors must pass a state exam to become certified. The exam covers international codes, O.S.H.A., tax laws, and all phases of construction.
